This one-of-a-kind acrylic painting features a young, dark-haired women, crowned with flowers, carrying a basket full of brightly colored fruits. She is framed by olive-laden branches. These seven species, the staple crops of ancient Israel, comprise the first harvest between Passover and Shavuot. Pomegranates, grapes, figs, dates, olives, wheat, and barley were crucial to the Israelites’ daily life, and were also the only plants accepted as offerings at the Temple. This artist makes use of a wide variety of bright colors in combination with simple techniques to produce a layered and complex result.
